Your Future is to be Determined

For adoptees, the second-most life-changing moment may be here. The moment you decide to determine who you are and what you want your (near) future to be.

Adoptees, and adults with the experiences of being foster kids, often struggle more than peers in nearly all major decisions. Even with the most supportive adoptive family in the world, they are living a distinct experience within the shared experience of their adoptive or foster family.

You are not alone in this experience. Abby is here to guide you as you determine who you are and what your future could be.

Do you Have a Vision of You and Your Future? Or for Your Adopted Child?

Perhaps your path is going in a different direction than you’d hoped.

Perhaps you are able to take the proactive steps to support your adoptee child(ren) in their personal development.

“When you don’t know who you are, it’s overwhelming to envision who you can be.”

Fellow Adoptee and Semi-retired Psychotherapist

What is an Adoptee Counselor?

An adoptee counselor provides support and guidance to individuals who have experienced the process of adoption. To borrow from American Adoptions, “...the role of an adoption consultant is part-guide, part-counselor and part-companion.”

As a result of my own personal experience as a foster child and then adoptee, I provide an opportunity for adoptees to learn to tell their stories and to recognize how their unique perspectives help form their identities. I also bring with me years of experience as a licensed substance abuse clinician and psychotherapist. Throughout the years, I  have worked with youth, families and groups in a variety of mental health settings.

My goal is to listen to your stories of you as an adoptee or as adopted family members as you continue on this journey of self-identification.
