Services

Being able to tell your story, to know your story, is crucial for human development. For many of us though, there are missing pieces of this story when we are adopted, resulting in more questions than answers. Trying to establish self identity while in turmoil is quite often one of the greatest challenges and also one of its greatest rewards when obtained.

My adoptee counseling services provide a supportive space for adopted individuals and their adoptive families to explore the complex emotions surrounding their identity as an adoptee and unknown origins. Led by an adoption-focused counselor, my services help adoptees process feelings of loss while piecing together empowering life narratives. Abby guides clients in integrating their adoption story into a coherent self-identity, overcoming past hurt to uncover their strengths, values, and purpose. With compassion and expertise, Abby empowers adoptees to author their unique stories and discover who they truly are.

Couples Adoptee Counseling is specifically crafted for the adoptive parents, providing them with the vital support and education needed to facilitate life with their adoptee, post adoption. This service is not only about imparting knowledge but also about nurturing resilience and understanding within the adoptive family. The counseling sessions work on enhancing communication between the adoptive parents, offering methodologies that can help them articulate their feelings, concerns, and aspirations more effectively. The focus is on fortifying their relationship, promoting mutual support and cooperation. This enhanced unity in turn, creates a more stable and nurturing environment for the adoptee, contributing positively to their overall development and wellbeing.

Family Sessions

$200/Session

  • Benefits for adoptive families: Adoptee counseling serves as an invaluable source of continued education and support after the adoption process has been finalized. This form of counseling can aid families in navigating the unique challenges that may arise post-adoption, fostering understanding, and facilitating improved communication among family members.

  • Adoptee counseling can provide families with strategies to help adoptees cope with issues related to identity, self-esteem, and belonging, which can often surface after adoption. It creates a supportive environment where all family members can express their feelings openly and learn how to respond effectively to one another’s needs.

  • Adoptee counseling can also equip parents with the knowledge and resources to better understand the adoptee's cultural and ancestral backgrounds, which is pivotal in raising a well-rounded individual who is aware of their roots and heritage. This ongoing support and education is vital for the well-being of all members of the adoptive family, ensuring a smoother transition and a solid foundation for a successful future together.
